Those were 3 wars fought between the rising Roman empire and the Carthaginian empire between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC. There were 3 Punic wars. The first was over control of Sicily, as Roman rule was expanding south from central Italy and moving into Sicily, where Carthage had control. It was mainly a naval war, and eventually, Rome prevailed. The second war was Hannibal's invasion of Italy. The Romans could not defeat Hannibal in Italy, but they invaded North Africa, drew Hannibal and his army into a battle in Africa, and defeated him there. The third was a final battle between Rome and Carthage, where Rome invaded Africa again and destroyed Carthage, thus bringing an end to Carthaginian might in the Mediterranean world.
