a plaque has a perimeter of 17.5 inches. It is three quarters as tall as it is wide. what is its width in inches.

P = 2*W + 2*H  = 17.5           H  = height (in)     W = width (in)    P = perimeter (in)

 

H = (3/4)*W

 

2*W + 2*(3/4)*W = 17.5 in

2*W + 1.5*W = 17.5 in

3.5*W = 17.5

W = 17.5 in/3.5 = 5 in

H = (3/4)*5 in = 15/4 in or 3.75 in
