If you want to know by what factor the area will
increase by doubling the dimensions :
Area = Lw
New area = (2L)(2w) = 4Lw
The answer is 4.

Length = x
Width = x - 3
Area: x(x-3) = x2 - 3x
New rectangle:
Length = 2x
Width = 2(x-3) = 2x - 6
Area: 2x(2x-6) = 4x2 - 12x = 4(x2 - 3x)
