The perimeter is the sum of the four sides, so first divide the perimeter by four to get the length of a side. 97/4 = 24.25. Now puse that to solve the equation for the side. 24.25 = 8.75x - 2. dd 2 to both sides gives 26.26 = 8.75x. Now divide both sides by 8.75 and x = 3.
