College Pre Calc Help!

The equation of a line is written in standard form.
(a) Solve the equation for y.
(b) Write a formula f(x) for a function whose graph is the given line.
 
 
3x+y= 7
 
(a) y= ___
(b) f(x)= ___
 
 
*I already solved this but I am just triple checking.

(a) y=7-3x
(b): 3

(a) is correct, but normally the equation of a line is written y = mx + b, so in this case y = -3x + 7.
 
(b) should not be a value. The problem is asking you to convert the above equation into a function. It's just a matter of changing the notation. Just say let y = f(x). So then f(x) = -3x + 7
