Hi Ismail from New York, NY. Hope you are having a good weekend.
I will contribute a bit from what Mark M. responded before me. This is a question, which is asking you to take a stance or position with a point of view or opinion. Your instructor is asking you to give reasons for your response, not limited to just answering the question your instructor asks, but why do you have the position or opinion.
Here are some ideas to consider (points to make on why you have the opinion you do): Here is an example, say you are in the wilderness with just a knife. This is a tool which can be used for positive things or negative things. The knife can be used for getting wood for a fire, building a shelter or acquiring some for a food and even protecting yourself. However, the knife could be used as a weapon to threaten another person to take away or steal what they have. The issue isn't the tool, but how it is used.
Now, take your instructor's challenge, chemistry. Chemistry is all around us. Its the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breath, the ground we walk on and so on and on and on. But it is also in the making of tools, like the knife above, a sword, gunpower, dynamite, bombs, which aren't always good, positive tools. Chemistry is also in the manufacturing of medicine and vaccines. But it is also in the manufacturing of poisons, toxins, waste which affects us.
So now, your challenge is which of these example works out better for us a humans, then give your reasons for your opinion. Good luck, contact us on Wyzant if you need further assistance.
