The temperature of a freezer is never greater than 2°C.Yesterday the temperature was -10°C, but it increased at a steady rate of 1.5°C per hour.How long in hours and minutes did the temperature increase inside the freezer?

Let R = 1.5ºC/hour be the rate of temperature increase.

Let Ti = -10ºC is the initial temperature.

Let Tf = 2ºC be the final temperature.

 

R = ΔT/Δt, or the change in temperature with respect to change in time.

 

Solve for Δt = ΔT/R = (Tf - Ti)/R = [2ºC - (-10ºC)]/(1.5ºC/hour)

 

Δt = 8 hours
