Question

One car costs 12,000 and costs an average of 0.10 per mile to maintain. Another car model costs 14,000 and costs an average of 0.08 per mile to maintain. If one of each model is driven the same number of miles, after how many miles would the total cost be the same?

Let x = the number of miles

Let y = the total cost

y = 12,000 + .10m

y = 14,000 + .08m

12,000 + .10m = 14,000 + .08m

.02m = 2,000

m = 100,000 miles
