2x + 2x+1 is equivalent to 2x + 2x *21
So you can factor out the common factor of 2x leaving you the factored expression
2x(1+2) = 3*2x
Similarly, m*2x+2 is equivalent to m*2x * 22 = 4m*2x
So 3*2x= 4m*2x
3 = 4m
3/4 = m
This is a rational number.
