Hi Storm, use the equation for the perimeter of a rectangle, p = 2l + 2w to solve this question.
Solution:
p = 2l + 2w
Substitution:
p = 130 centimeters
w = w
l = 4w + 5
2 * (4w 5) + 2w = 130
8w + 10 + 2w = 130
Combine terms:
10w = 120
w = 12
The width of the rectangle is 12 centimeters.
The length of the rectangle is 4 * 12 + 5, or 53 centimeters.
Check:
2 * 53 + 2 * 12 = 130
106 + 24 = 130
130 = 130
Values check.
