Question

2 years from now a man will be 3 times as old as his daughter, their current age gap is 30 years

 

Find the mans age

Find the daughters age

Answer 1

m = mans current age

d = daughters current age

 

two years from now he will be three times her age:

m+2 = 3(d+2)

m + 2 = 3d + 6

m - 3d = 4    {equation 1}

 

Current age gap is 30 years

m = d + 30    {equation 2}

 

Replace m with d+30 in equation 1

 

d + 30 - 3d = 4

 

Solve for d.  Then use m = d+30
