The rule is to add 3....  The first number is 3

 

a₁ = 3

a₂ = 3+3 = 6

a₃ = 6 + 3 = 9

 

The 3rd number is 9

 

The sequence is:  3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, ....
