lawanda and sierra eat dinner

lawanda and sierra eat dinner at a restaurant with a 6% sales tax . They leave an 18% tip on the pre-tax amount of the bill . If they pay a total of 37.20 including tax and tip, what was the pre-tax bill for their meal?

Antheia E.

Let X represent the pre-tax bill, sales tax 0.6x, and the tip will be 0.18x. Now we're told their total bill is $37. 20, which includes the 24% increase (6% + 18% = 24%), which is more than the bill before taxes and tips. Now to get $37.20, you will have to find [x + 0.6x + 0.18x = ]. So if x = 100%, then $37.20 = 124%, that means that x= $37.20 -:- (124/100) = $30.00, which means that $7.20 is the 24% increase of x and is total of taxes and tips. To find the taxes, we calculate 6% of $30, so you get $1.80 and 18% of $30, which gives you $5.40.
