Brandon is shopping at Old Nacy during a sale. All shorts are $16 each and all shirts are $10 each. He has $100 to spend and would like to purchase at least 2 pair of shorts.

1) write a system of linear inequalities to represent this situation, then graph.

2) using your graph, give two possible combinations of shorts that Brandon can buy.

16X + 10Y = 100, X>=2

 

10Y = 100 - 16*X

 

Y = 10 - 8/5*X , X>=2

 

X=2 ---> Y = 10 - 16/5 = 50/5 - 16/5 = 34/5 = 6 and 4/5

2 shorts and 6 shirts cost 32 + 60 = 92

 

X=3 ---> Y = 10 - 24/5 = 26/5 = 5 and 1/5

 

3 shorts and 5 shirts cost 48 + 50 = 98
