range of arctan(x)

What is the range of h(x)=arctan(x)? I know the domain is (-infinity, infinity) and I thought this was the range alos, but I keep getting an incorrect on my answer

You are correct in the domain of the function, the range is -∏/2 to ∏/2

So how do I write that? I have answered with (-pi/2, pi/2) and tried [-pi/2,p/2] and it tells me the type of interval is incorrect.

If it is an online course there should be a box the lets you input special symbols on the top or left hand side of the screen. Normally there's a list of the Greek alphabet letters
 
If not however then you could try holding the alt key and pressing 227 then letting go of the alt key

Since arctan is the inverse of tangent the range of arctan is also the domain of tangent
 
the domain of tangent is -π/2 to π/2 therefore this is also the range for the arctan function.
 
The reason we do not include π/2 to 3π/2 and so on is because the arctan function must be a function where one input gives only one output.
