A cylindrical container with a radius of 10 cm and a height of 5 cm is filled with water. If the total mass of the filled container is 2 kg, what is the mass of the empty container?

The density of water is 1 gram per cubic centimeter.

 

  D = 1 g/cm^3

 

Density  = Mass / Volume

 

D = M/V   ----> M = D * V

 

Volume V = pi * radius^2 * height = pi * 10*10*5 = 500*pi = 1570.796326795 cm^3

 

M = D * V = 1 g/cm^3 * 1570.79636795 cm^3 = 1570.79636795 grams

 

                                                                      = 1.57079636795 kg

 

The tare weight of the empty container is 2 kg - 1.57079636795 kg = 0.429203673205 kg
