Entrance tickets for a carnival are $8 for children and $13 for adults. If one evening 753 tickets were sold with a total receipt of $7279, how many children and how many adults entered the carnival?

Let x = number of children's tickets sold

Let y = number of adult tickets sold

x + y = 753      x = 753 - y

8x + 13y = 7279

8(753 - y) + 13y = 7279

6024 - 8y + 13y = 7279

5y = 1255

y = 251 adult tickets

x = 753 - y

x = 753 - 251

x = 502 children's tickets
