Quotient means divide. So a number divided by -10 is -2. x Is the missing number. It would look like this as an equation:
x/(-10)= (-2)
since “a number” comes before “-10” in the word problem, the missing number goes on top.
To solve, you multiply both sides by (-10). This cancels out the (-10) on the left side. You are left with x on the left side, and (+20) on the right side. So the answer is 20.
