Mike has a large tropical fish collection. He gives 2/3 of his fish to the high school. Then he gives 2/5 of his remaining fish to the elementary school. In the end he has 30 fish left, how many fish did he have at first?

Let x be the original number of fish. After Mike gives 2/3 of his fish to the high school, the number of remaining fish is 1/3 x. He then gives 2/5 of those fish to the elementary school and has 30 fish left.

So 3/5 * 1/3 x = 30

1/5 x = 30

x = 150
