The length of a rectangle measures 2 cm more than its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 68. Find the dimensions of the rectangle.

let w be the width, length= w+2

 

perimeter of rectangle= 2(L+ w) = 2(w+2+2)= 2(2w+2)= 4w+4

but the given perimeter is 6.

So,

4w+4 = 68

4w=64

w=16

length=16+2=18

 

Hence, the dimensions are 18 cm by 16 cm.
