CONVERSION from octal to decimal. Work from left octal digit toward the right.

 

Initialize counter to 0.

 

STEP ONE: Obtain a digit. Add to counter.

If that was not the last (rightmost octal digit), multiply counter by 8.

Repeat at STEP ONE, with the understanding that each successive digit obtained is to the right of the prior one obtained.
