Last year, there were 12000 students at a local college. There were 2000 more female students than male students. How many female students attended the college?

Then the number of female students

is M+2000 where M is the number of 

female students.

 

M + M+2000 = 12000

 

2M + 2000 = 12000

 

2M = 10000

 

M = 5000

 

F = 5000 + 2000 =  7000
