Just to let you know, the St. Labre Indian School is real school. However, I will only say that some of these schools like St. Labre are run by a religious organization, in this case the Catholic church.

Just to let you know, the St. Labre Indian School is real school. However, I will only say that some of these schools like St. Labre are run by a religious organization, in this case the Catholic church.
As a Native American I will only say that just about all tribes have their own education systems on their reservations, either as tribal schools or operated in conjunction the the Office of Indian Education through the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Department of Interior, a US government department.
Some of these schools are like private or charter schools, but located on or near an Indian reservation, either as foster placement or orphanages. If you need any further information about the school just Google the school. Some of these school house Indian students because they do not have parents or some other issues. Also, just to let you know, some Indian tribes and their governments, as well as individual Indian people feel that these school take advantage of these kinds of situations to ask for donations.

They identify as "Indian" instead of the names of tribes. Christian schools have a bad record of forced mass attendance, attempts to eradicate language and culture and convert children to Christianity and white culture. In the past children were taken by force from extended families and even parents on the privileged notion that White culture was always better forthechildren.

View "Ltttle Bird" on PBS currently (10/23). AFTER the episode, a comment appears to the effect that the numbers of Indian children in such situations is now larger than ever. This does NOT show a breakdown between Canadian (site of LittleBird) and USA mission schools.
