We cut 24 feet into 2 pieces.

The lengths are x and 4x since 1 is 4 times as long as the other.

 

x + 4x = 24

5x = 24

x = 24/5 = 4.8 ft

4x = 19.2 ft

 

The two pieces are 4.8 ft and 19.2 ft in length
