Rate with wind = plane speed + wind speed = p+w

Rate against wind = plane speed - wind speed = p-w

 

Distance = rate*time ...  d = rt

 

380 = 1(p-w)

480 = 1(p+w)

 

p - w = 380

p+w = 480     add equations

2p = 860

p = 430 mph plane speed in still air

 

As already noted, speed of plane with wind is 480 mph.
