Question

Students are selling tickets to a school play.  The goal is to raise $600.  Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for students.  Write and graph a linear model for the number of adult and student tickets sold that will reach the goal.

Answer 1

Let x = number of adult tickets sold

Let y = number of student tickets sold

4x + 3y = 600

If x = 0, y = 200

If y = 0, x = 150

That gives you two ordered pairs: (0,200) and (150,0)

Plot those points and connect them to give you a linear model.
