Help with word problem

Mary and her twin Teri collected a total of 450 Pokemon trading cards. Their big sister ann collected 1/2 as many as Teri. Teri collected twice as much as mary. How many cards did each girl collect.

Andrew M.

mary+teri=450

ann=teri/2

teri=2mary

substitute.... we know t=2m we can put that in the first equation

m+(2m)=450
3m=450
divide everything by 3
3m/3=450/3
m=150

So we know Mary collected 150

We can plug this in to the original equation

150+t=450
150+t-150=450-150
t=300

then we know ann collected half of what teri collected

300/2=ann

150
so Mary collected 150
Ann collected 150
and Teri collected 300

450 total cards
Big sis Ann = x
Terri = 2x
2x + x = 450
3x=450
x=150
2x = 300
Big Sis Ann has 150 cards, Terri has 300 cards

Mary= x
Teri= 2x
Ann= 1/2 (2x)= x

Mary + Teri = 450
x + 2x = 450
3x = 450
x = 150

Therefore, Ann= 150 cards, Teri= 300 cards, and Mary= 150 cards
