How is the 3 in 536 similar and different from the 3 in 1,367? Please show me how to draw 536 using base ten block,show me how 1,367 using base ten blocks?

5 and 3 are similar in that the both name the number of hundreds.

5 and 3 are different in that 5 is two more than 3, or 5 names 5 hundred and 3 names 3 hundred.

If you insist on answering this question using base ten blocks, you will have to consult your Common Core material and imitate whatever their slow, painstaking methods are.

 

This all boils down to the idea of positional notation; digit values are multiplied by 1, ten, 100, 1000, etc. depending on whether they are at the right end of an integer's decimal representation, or further to the left, progressively.

 

E.G. 111 equals one plus one ten plus one hundred.
