Have 79% out of 85%, what % do I need to get get to 85%?

Let N be the number of grades: test scores, quizzes, hw etc.

 

Add up all your grades.

 

The formula you need is :

85 x (N+1) - sum of the grades 

 

where N is the Number of Grade you have.

Ex 1:  your grades are 90, 80, and 87

 

The total of the three (N=3) grades is 257

 

You need 85 x 4 - 257 =

           240 - 257 = 83

 

to get an 85% average.

Ex #2. suppose your grades are 78, 79, 80.

 

The total of the three grades is 237

 

85 x 4 - 237 = 340  - 237 = 103

 

You will need to ACE the final exam and get some extra credit

in order to get an 85%.
