in steve's math class, 12 students play the piano

In Steve's math class,12 students play the piano and 17 students play the guitar. If a total of 19 students play only one of these two instruments, how many students play both instruments?

Answer 1

Say x no of students play both the instruments.

12 students play piano

17 students play guitar

So 12-x  no of students play only piano

     17-x  no of students play only guitar

So, 12-x + 17-x = 19

      2x=10

        x= 5

 

So no of students , who play guitar and piano both are 5.
