How many times bigger is a 8x8 hole than a 4x4 hole

A standard hole is 4x4 In a roof. Some people like to create a bigger hole that is 8x8. How many times bigger is the new hole than the original.

Since the formula for area is A = L x W

the area of a 4x4 hole is:

A = L x W 

A = 4 x 4

A = 16

And for the 8x8 hole:

A = 8 x 8

A = 64

so for the ratio of the two:

ratio = 64/16 = 4
