From the first sentence, "A tire dealer sells 2 tires for as much as he paid for 3 tires." you can see the tire guy is making a profit of 1 tire for every two he sells. If a dozen, 12 tires cost $240 then 1 tire costs 240/12 = 20$
So now you can say that the tire guy makes 20$ off every 2 tires sold or 20/2 = 10$/tire
That's: 12 tires * 10$/tire = 120$ profit for selling 12 tires
