What you REALLY need is a strategy and the courage for attacking word problems.
P = 30
P = 2(L + W)
Length is 3 inches more than width ... this means L = 3 +W.
With these facts, you can substitute for L and thus you will be able to solve for W.
Now you can answer almost any type of question, e.g. length, width, and area of the rectangle. (You didn't actually ask any of these, though.)
