How does power change hands in socialism

In a socialist government how does power change hand?

When you look at how socialists seized power in Russia, China, Cuba, and several other socialist countries, you can see that for the most part, it was by violent revolution resulting in seizure of government power.  Upon seizing government power, the socialists seized all property, control of the press, and control over every aspect of the economy.  All dissent was suppressed violently.
