A new photocopier works 2 times as fast as the old one. When the machines work together a university can produce its manels in 16hrs. Find the time it would take each machine to complete the job

let t = the rate of the new copier

2t = the rate of the old copier

 

1/t + 1/(2t) = 1/16

 

16 + 8 = t      if we multiply both sides of the above equation by 16t, the LCD

 

t = 24 hours = the new copier's rate

 

2 * 24 = 48 hours = the old copier's rate
