You correctly computed the TOTAL speed when it hits the water, but the problem asked for the vertical speed only. There is more than one way to get this. The tutors gave you correct ways to get the vertical speed. Another way, using your value for v of 10.1 m/s,
v2 = vx2 + vy2
v = 10.1
vx = 2.0
10.12 = 2.02 + vy2
vy = √(10.12 - 2.02) = 9.9
