Length and Width of a garden?

The one side of a small rectangular garden is 4 meters more than one-half the other side. If the perimeter is 44 meters, what are the dimensions of the garden?

L = 1/2 W + 4   and P = 2L + 2W = 44

Substituting for L in the 2nd Equation

2 ( 1/2 W + 4 ) + 2 W = 44

W + 8 + 2W = 44

3W = 36

W = 12

L = 1/2 (12) + 4 = 10

Checking to see if Perimeter is 44

2L+2W = 44

2 (10) + 2(12) = 44

44 = 44  .... checks ok
