Question

If 3 secretaries can type 12 pages in 5 minutes, how long will it take for 6 secretaries to type 32 pages at the same rate?

This problem needs a rate first, which is:

(12 pages)/(5 minutes x 3 secretaries), and can be written as

(12 pg)/(15 min-sec) = (4 pg/ 5 min-sec)

 

now we set up the problem to get minutes.

x min = ((5 min-sec)/(4 pg)) (32 pg)/(6 sec)

x min = (5/4)(32 min/6) = 6 2/3 min
