Specialized food preference is not always an advantage to an organism; it may place an organism at the risk of starvation depending on the extent of specialization, available resources and number of members present in that particular habitat. It is likely to increase the competition for food in an ecosystem depending on number of species present and the abundance of resources, climate etc.
Hope this helps.
