"War is merely a continuation of politics by other means." This quote from Clausewitz may as well be the marching orders of U.S. Military strategy. We do not take over countries to claim their resources or expand our borders, but rather to infuse failed states and openly hostile states with the ideals of representational government and the republic. Not only did we do this in Afghanistan and Iraq, but also in our support of the Arab Spring and our rejection of Russia's invasion of Crimea.
