Word Problem recreational math rate and volume

Question

A barrel contains 360 gallons of gasoline.  A tap drains out the gasoline at a constant rate of 1.5 gallons per second.  How many minutes will it take to empty the barrel?

(360 gallons)/(1.5 gallons per second) = 240 seconds

 

There are 60 seconds per minute so

divide 240 by 60 to get the minutes

 

240/60 = 4 minutes
