Hi Vanessa!
The key here, is to note that Shen has 8$ more than Amy. So, that means Amy has some amount of dollars (x). We also know that Ryan has 2 times more than what Shen has. But, we know that Shen has 8$ more than Amy. To put it into an equation, try to think how we can turn our english phrase "8 more than x" and "2 times 8 more than x" into an equation.
Plus, we also know how much all three of them have in total. So, whatever equation we come up with, should be equal to the amount that they all share.
