The main goal of green chemistry is to reduce the number of individual reactions needed to make a final product. Chemists have accomplished this by finding novel reactions that more directly transforms the reactant(s) into the desired product(s). A few examples of these techniques are as follows: using Ruthenium catalysts to isomerize the reactant, directly transforming the C-H bonds, not protecting/deprotecting functional groups, tandem and cascade reaction processes, biocatalysts, and using different solvents.
