Since there is more than 2.5 but less than 3 pies left, what you are interested in determining is the portion of pie that is greater than a half pie but less than a whole pie. In other words, because the pie was cut into discrete pieces, you have either 2 5/8, 2 2/3, 2 3/4, 2 5/6, or 2 7/8 pies left.
In order to give a more exact answer, there needs to be an additional constraint.
