cody sold 1 new York cheesecake and 11 strawberry cheesecake for a total of 230.00  Wilbur sold 3 new York cheesecake and 6 strawberry cheese cake for a total of 150.00.  Find the cost of each of one  new York cheesecake and one strawberry cheese cake.

X = NY Cheesecake

Y = strawberry cheesecake

 

X + 11Y = 230

3X + 6Y = 150  -->  X + 2Y = 50       (divides everything by 3)

 

subtracting the two equations:

 

  9Y = 180

  Y = 20

 X + 2(20) = 50

 X + 40 = 50

X = 10

 

check:  10 + 11(20) = 10 + 220 = 230

answers verified.

 

NY Style cheesecake costs $10 each and the strawberry cheesecake costs $20 each.
