Hi Youssef,
Make the denominators the same. So, multiply the first term by 3 and the second one by 4.
(x+5) (x-2) 3(x+5) + 4(x-2) 3x+15 + 4x - 8 7x + 7
------- + -------- = ---------------------- = ---------------------- = ------------
4 3 12 12 12
(3) (4)
(7x + 7)/12 = 7
7x + 7 = 84
7x = 77
x = 11

Thanks Kenneth. This always works though sometimes you might end up with big products depending on the question.
This is the way I was taught but we were advised to look for the lowest common multiple after having a mastery of this technique. Best wishes, Kemal
