You can also do it this way.

The numbers are x, x+1 and x+2

x + x+1 + x+2 = 225

3x+3 = 225

3x = 222

x = 74

x+1 = 75

x+2 = 76

We know the numbers are integers and therefore, whole numbers. We also know the numbers are consecutive, which means they must be 3 odd integers in a row (e.g. 1, 3, 5 or 55, 57, 59; etc.)

 

We are going to set the first number to be 'x'

This means the second number is x+2

and the third number is x+4

 

Since we know when we add the numbers together, we get a value of 225.

 

(x)+(x+2)+(x+4) = 225

 

3x + 6 = 225

3x = 219

x = 73

 

This tells you the first number is 73

The second number is 75

and the third number is 77

x-1, x and x+1 have an average of x, so 225/3 = 75; x = 75 and the integers are 74, 74, 76. NEWS FLASH!It appears that the question is about consecutive odd numbers; amazingly, that word ODD acted invisibly to me! Anyway, the idea that I gave is easily adapted to solve the question
