Using the star asterisk (*) as the symbol for this operation makes it confusing because
it typically means multiplication
Lets use another symbol like the pound sign #
The definition of this operation is : p # q = pq + p + q
In plain English, that means whatever numbers you pick for p and q,
add them together and then add that total to the product.
That is, multiply them together, Then add the first number to that.
then add the second to that.
So 2 # 3 = 2x3 + 2 + 3 = 6 + 2 + 3 = 11
