While shopping for shampoo, I notice that Costco sells a 64 ounce bottle for $9.99 and Walmart sells a 24 ounce bottle for 3.99. which is the better buy?

To find out which is better, simply find the price per ounce by dividing the cost by the number of ounces. The lower value is a better deal.

 

Costco: 9.99 / 64 = .156, or 15.6¢/oz

Walmart: 3.99 / 24 = .166, or 16.6¢/oz

 

The Costco shampoo is cheaper by about 1 cent per ounce.
