Question

You have cots, measuring 2 ft x 6 ft.

A. The National Guard has tents that measure 20 ft x 25 ft. How many cots could they reasonably get in each tent?

 

B. The gym in a high school measures 120 ft x 80 ft and has 2 entrances. How many cots could they reasonably get in the gym?

Answer 1

A. You have to get the floor area ratio : Tent floor area/ Cot floor area to find the number of cots  (20*25) / (2*6) =  41.67 .. So maximum number of cots you can fit = 41

 

B.  Again, the ratio = (120*80)/(2*6) = 800 cots
